infrastructure//Cloudflare//Workers KV

Workers KV is Cloudflare's distributed key-value store. Despite being persistent storage, it is often called a *cache*, because it is optimized for high-frequency reads from Workers; its name says it is designed to be accessed from Workers, more a fast distributed dictionary than a standalone database.

Workers KV is Cloudflare's distributed key-value store. Despite being persistent storage, it is often called a cache, because it is optimized for high-frequency reads from Workers; its name says it is designed to be accessed from Workers, more a fast distributed dictionary than a standalone database.

It maps a key to a value, which can be text, JSON or a binary blob (up to 25 MB).

It is eventually consistent: writes propagate globally within about 60 seconds.

It is optimized for read-heavy patterns, with fast reads at the edge and slower writes, which suits configuration, feature flags, session data and cached API responses.

It differs from D1 (SQL, structured data with queries) and R2 (large files, object storage): KV is for small values that must be read fast at the edge.
