This is distinct from software UI. A beautiful application cannot repair an unreliable sleep sensor, ambiguous charging light, poor keyboard geometry, or a fan curve that constantly interrupts attention.

Input and output modalities form loops. A keystroke without immediate visual feedback feels broken even when the computation eventually succeeds.

Hardware interfaces persist longer than individual applications, so small ergonomic mistakes compound across every task performed on the machine.

The best laptop interface often disappears. You notice it chiefly when latency, heat, noise, or ambiguity makes the hardware re-enter your attention.
