Cloud storage is data persistence managed by a cloud provider. Unlike physical storage (HDDs, SSDs, flash), the hardware is not the user's to manage: the provider handles replication, durability, automated backups and scaling, and the user works through APIs, not block devices.

Cloud storage is data persistence managed by a cloud provider. Unlike physical storage (HDDs, SSDs, flash), the hardware is not the user's to manage: the provider handles replication, durability, automated backups and scaling, and the user works through APIs, not block devices.

It comes in two main categories: object storage (buckets, files or blobs accessed by key) and managed databases (SQL and NoSQL engines run by the provider).
