blockchain//state

The world state of a blockchain is the snapshot of all account balances, contract storage and nonces at a given block height. Full nodes verify it independently by re-executing all the transactions in each block they receive (in Clique, after checking the proposer's ECDSA seal on the block to confirm who proposed it), and when a full node's computed state hash differs from the hash the proposer claims, the block is rejected.

This is why a blockchain is trustless: every node can verify every claim from scratch.
