Railway is a cloud platform for deploying backend applications: it takes the code (Node.js, Python, Go, Rust or anything else), provisions a server and runs it.
It is simpler than AWS and more backend-focused than Vercel. Its processes are persistent, so the server runs around the clock instead of being serverless, which suits websockets, background jobs and long-running tasks.
PostgreSQL, Redis and MySQL are built in, one click each to provision. Railway is the place for a real server that Workers or Vercel Functions cannot handle: heavy compute, persistent connections, full Node.js with filesystem access.
