Its tools are system prompts, few-shot examples, role-play frames and output format constraints. It is the new programming, but a fragile one: model-dependent and non-deterministic. When a prompt runs thousands of times, the search for its wording can itself be automated against a scored benchmark (automatic prompt engineering).
