The difference from consumer IoT is not the sensors but the demands: reliability, security, availability and integration with legacy systems that will not be replaced (OT). A smart bulb can drop offline; a compressor's vibration feed cannot silently stop.
The enabling stack is the data layer itself: telemetry out of the assets, an edge gateway to translate and buffer, MQTT in the plant to distribute, a time-series database or historian to keep it, and analytics on top. Across many sites it becomes fleet data.
