An HD (hierarchical deterministic) wallet is a wallet that derives an unlimited number of key pairs from one master seed, in a reproducible tree, so that a single backup recovers every account. Deterministic means that the same seed always produces the same sequence of accounts, by mathematics rather than randomness.

An HD (hierarchical deterministic) wallet is a wallet that derives an unlimited number of key pairs from one master seed, in a reproducible tree, so that a single backup recovers every account. Deterministic means that the same seed always produces the same sequence of accounts, by mathematics rather than randomness.

Its advantage over keystore files is that one backup (the seed phrase, the human-readable form of the entropy that generates the master key) recovers all the accounts.

It is compatible across wallets: the same seed phrase in Metamask and in Trust Wallet gives the same accounts and the same balances.

After a restore only Account 1 shows, and the user must press Add Account to re-derive the others in order.
