Express is a web framework for Node.js, and the de facto standard for building APIs and HTTP servers with server-side JavaScript.
Its API defines routes and their handlers with calls such as app.get('/users', handler) and app.post('/users', handler).
Middleware are functions that process the request before it reaches the handler (auth, logging, parsing).
Express runs on Node.js, so it requires a persistent process (a server running 24/7). Hono is the same idea, routes and handlers, for Workers, and runs serverless at the edge instead.
