Residency is narrower than privacy and much narrower than technological sovereignty. Data can remain inside one country while encryption keys, software updates, support access and the controlling company sit elsewhere. A region selector answers one coordinate, not the entire governance question.

Knowing where the warehouse stands does not tell you who owns the keys.
