Claude Code is Anthropic's AI coding assistant, used as a CLI. It reads the project context from dot-claude and follows the rules in CLAUDE.md, executes tools (Bash, Read, Edit, Grep and others) autonomously, and is configured through settings, hooks and skills. On a complex multi-step task the model can reason at length before deciding which tools to call (extended thinking).
